Widely considered one of the most scenic courses in Southern California, this picturesque out-and-back route starts with a smooth, gradual downhill that lets you find your rhythm. The return brings a few manageable climbs to keep things interesting before guiding you into a fast, crowd-energized finish through vibrant downtown Encinitas.

Pro/Elite 10K

The Kook Run PRO & ELITE Race! World class runners and local elites will be competing for a $4000 prize purse in the 10K. This will be the fastest 10K in SoCal!

Junior Kook

Like the Kook Run, but for Kids! The annual Junior Kook Run hits the YMCA running with a course surrounding the baseball fields and parking lot. The Jr. Kook includes timing and medals!

Costume Contest

You can't have The Kook Run without the world famous Kook themed costume contest! Prizes available for participants in 2 categories - Individual Kook Costume, Group Costume Contest.

Finish Line Festivals

Kick off Super Bowl Sunday 2027 in Moonlight Plaza at The Kook Run's post-race finish line festival, which will feature live music, beer garden, breakfast tacos, local venders, and games and activities.

TRANSPORTATION: To help with parking on race morning we encourage using a bicycle, carpooling, ride share services, and other local public transportation to arrive onsite. The train and bus station is only 1 block away. If you are using Uber or Lyft we suggest using the Encinitas Library address as a drop and pickup point so you can walk down to the event area. (540 Cornish Dr, Encinitas, 92024)

PACKET PICKUP: The Kook Run is offering 2 pickup options. Pre-race pickups are not required, but will make your experience on race morning smoother if your gear is picked up prior to race day. Can't make it? Someone else will be allowed to pick up your packet.

KOOK RUN ADD'L DETAILS

ELITE/PRO RACE

The Kook Run Pro/Elite Race has been considered the West Coast's fastest 10K since 2022. Made up of an international field of runners as well as the top runners in Southwest Region, all racing for a cash purse of $4300.

The Pro Race is a treat for all! It's the only running event in Southern California where you run on the course with the pros, and see the pro race as a fan at the same time.

COSTUME CONTEST

What's a little run on the Coast Hwy without some costume fun! Come out and help us celebrate "The Big Game" and show your support for your favorite team, your favorite super hero, favorite princess, or because you want to wear your craziest costume. We will award the top 3 group and individual costumes.

Registration: FREE (onsite only)

Registration Times: 6:30am- 7:15am

Contest Awards: 9:30am

Contest Rules:

Keep it classy. This is a family event.. Just saying.
Participants must be present to win!
Normal running attire is not considered a costume.
Race results have no bearing on contest results.
All costume contest registration MUST be completed before the start of the 10K start time

FINISH LINE FESTIVAL

Race San Diego, LLC believes that the fun shouldn't end when you cross the finish line! The Kook Run is excited to partner to once again bring you a Finish Line Festival that's the worthy of Super Bowl Sunday.

The Kook Run will take over Moonlight Plaza with a Finish Line Festival featuring highlights for Kooks of all ages. The energy will be rocking with Live Music, a Vender Village, games and activities, and both Pro and Costume Contest Kook Run Awards. Plus, for our adult Kooks, you can hoist some suds to celebrate your accomplishment.

LIVE MUSIC:

Finish your race and head down to the finish line festival for some amazing music.

BEER GARDEN:

Celebrate with your friends and hoist up some suds in the Kook Run Beer Garden as we serve up ice cold refreshments from local breweries. We are excited to let you know that 100% of all proceeds from beer and refreshment sales will be going to Right Hand Angels

JUNIOR KOOK RUN

The Kids get their own day to run at the Junior Kook Run! The Ecke YMCA will come alive on Saturday, February 13th for a Kooky Race for Kids ages 3-12. Family and friends can cheer their kids along as they run distances that start at a 400 meters and go up to 1 mile on a closed and marked course hosted entirely at the YMCA.

8:30 a.m. - YMCA NORTH parking lot opens

9:00 a.m. - Packet Pickup Opens

10:30 a.m.- Ages 3-5 Junior Kook Start

10:40 a.m - Ages 6-7 Junior Kook Start

10:55 a.m.- Ages 8-9 Junior Kook Start

11:10 a.m.- Ages 10-12 Junior Kook Start

IMPORTANT NOTES

The Junior Kook Run is available to all interested kids regardless of their guardians or families participation in the 10K or 5K on Sunday.
Late starters are not allowed, be sure you’re at the event at least 30-45 mins prior to your Junior Kook's start time.
The Junior Kook Run will be a timed event with online results.
Only paid participants and accompanying adults will be allowed on the course.
This event will take place rain or shine, no refunds or deferrals.
Leave all pets at home. Dogs (except service dogs) are not allowed at the YMCA.
NO roller skates, inline skates, scooters, skateboards, bikes or other such devices are allowed.
